James the original Jarrett who along with his brothers, Jesse, Owen & David built Jaretts Fort.I have photos of that, the earlier home where they raised 22 children! James 2nd was the only son to remain in the Greenbrier area as many of James 1 sons relocated to the Kanawha Valley & into Indiana & beyond. I have found an earlier Deveaux Jarrett in Jamestown that possibly is the ancestor of the Georgia & NC line. I descent from Jesse & his wife, Sarah on my paternal line. However I ran across the Debeaux when researching my maternal ancestor, a Robert Jarrett marrying an Agnes Jarrety, being some of the very first settlers of Goochland, Va. I am so hoping those lines do not cross.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08008937947569150999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5397834275683624097.post-91991579214115784982020-10-31T12:33:34.760-05:002020-10-31T12:33:34.760-05:00We have so much fascinating history in our family!...We have so much fascinating history in our family! Not only did Elizabeth Griffey walk 12 miles to church each Sunday, but she walked through the forest "in spite of Indians still lurking about..."

Like you, I have heard stories about our family coming from France or Scotland. As best I can tell, Peter Jarrett was the first of our family born in the US, born in 1662 in Isle of Wight, Virginia. I still have more research to do. Somewhere along the way, perhaps prior to the family coming to the US, the family's name was Gerrad.

James Gerrad -> Owen -> Owen Vincent -> Ward Darlington -> Percy Gary -> Me, 5th Granddaughter
starshyynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04898015278938905402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5397834275683624097.post-60611841835154180812020-05-24T02:07:38.177-05:002020-05-24T02:07:38.177-05:00Interesting seems to have lot of info some confusi...Interesting seems to have lot of info some confusing I was @ the Jarrett House reunion I am James Jarrett originally from Charleston/ jsjarrett@yahoo.com
howdy hannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04835846118491288799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5397834275683624097.post-68808463924107219022016-08-16T13:13:48.173-05:002016-08-16T13:13:48.173-05:00I found your blog by googling the name Jarrett in ...I found your blog by googling the name Jarrett in Greenbrier County. I am a descendant of Vincent Jarrett, son of James Jarrett and Roseanna Vincent ( i am assuming his mother was Roseanna and not Elizabeth, as he was born in 1815) . Vincent and his wife ( Rebecca Collison) had 13 children, including a son- George Washington (1860-1946). George was married to Nellie Francis Collison and my grandmother, Grace Irene was one of their three children. It was very interesting seeing your history of the Jarretts in this blog post, as I am in possession of some of the same information. 😃Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16015773983044163175noreply@blogger.com
